Smart, creative, affectionate, athletic.

Chinook Dogs are affectionate family members, dependent on their owners, with a special relationship with children. They are highly intelligent and easy to train with an "I want to please you" work ethic. Chinooks can have a gentle, calm disposition but many have a gregarious side too!

Unlike some other breeds, the Chinook has a reliable "off switch" and these dogs are masters at cuddling on the couch with family. Chinooks are not a protection breed and do not make good guard dogs. People often ask if Chinooks are good with cats. The next photo will give you a clue.

Whether a Chinook is running in a team on a snowy trail, earning titles in the ring, hiking on a desolate mountain trail, or snuggling on the couch with a beloved family member, the Chinook is the ideal all-purpose canine companion.

Did you know? The Chinook breed’s average lifespan is 12 to 15 years of age. Some Chinooks have lived over 16 - 17 years, including our Intervale Ursa who was 17 years and 2 months when she passed.
